EVANGELICALISM: AN AMERICAN TALE

What is an Evangelical? Is there a crisis in American Evangelicalism? What is its future? How is Hope’s story part of the larger Evangelical tale? These questions are the focus of Evangelicalism: An American Tale. Not claiming to be comprehensive, this 8-week class will page through Hope Church’s Evangelical heritage, as we examine some of the key turning points of the Evangelicalism that significantly influence our Evangelical identity. Participants will gain not only an understanding of key Evangelical moments, figures, and themes but also have a greater appreciation for how Hope Church is a part of this tale.

Humility is out of style these days… In our navel-gazing, self-caring, Tik-Tok generating culture of influencers, Christ remains as one who “had no beauty or majesty to attract us to him, nothing in his appearance that we should desire him” (Isaiah 53:2b). This class aims to study humility, both its biblical roots and its applied practices. Greatly informing the class will be Hannah Anderson’s wonderful book, Humble Roots: How Humility Grounds and Nourishes Your Soul. For $1 per week ($8 total) you can purchase a copy of the book with the class – although purchasing/reading the book is not required for participation.
